To use Slovenian motorways, it is mandatory to purchase an electronic e-vignette (e-vignette) before using any tolled sections.
Motorways and expressways can only be used upon payment of tolls, while secondary roads and main roads are toll-free.
The toll obligation applies to vehicles with a maximum permitted weight below 3.5 tons.
* If you are driving a vehicle exceeding 3.5 tons (truck, bus, heavy vehicle), please visit the UTA payment system for the required toll payment.
Types and Prices of E-vignettes
The e-vignette is available for four periods:
- 365-day e-vignette
- 180-day e-vignette (motorcycles only)
- 30-day e-vignette
- 7-day e-vignette
* If a vehicle below 3.5 tons is towing a trailer, a separate toll is required for the trailer.
The road toll calculation will be displayed by the system after you provide information about the vehicle and the journey.
ℹ️ Online Purchase and Required Data
The toll for road use can be paid online. Vehicle registration only takes a few minutes. The required details are as follows:
- License plate number
- Country code
- Email address
- Mobile phone number
When placing an order (registering the vehicle), the license plate and the country of vehicle registration must be provided, then the validity start date and duration of the e-vignette type must be selected.
The system will request an email address and mobile phone number for contact. Providing the phone number is necessary, because the confirmation link will also be sent via SMS, ensuring that users receive proof of purchase even if email delivery fails for any reason.
A receipt for successful payment and a QR™ SMS code (containing vehicle identification and e-vignette validity) are sent by the system.
⚠️ Warning Regarding Suspicious Websites
Certain websites offer toll payment by collecting bank card details without providing a valid e-vignette, potentially putting your card information at risk of misuse.
Unsuspecting travelers may be seriously disadvantaged: firstly, they do not receive a valid e-vignette—which can lead to fines, and secondly, their card data may be abused.
It is recommended to avoid websites with suspicious or incorrect language.
⛔ Fines
Legislation (ZCestn-1.) specifies in detail what fines can be expected if someone uses a tolled motorway or expressway without valid payment:
- On-the-spot fine: if the vehicle is stopped by a police patrol, the fine is €300–800
- Automatic camera detection: if the offence is detected by an automatic camera system, the fine is €300–800
Here, via the customer portal, the required toll payment confirmation can be obtained online within a few minutes, and will be registered by the NDIS - Národná diaľničná spoločnosť, a.s. headquarters.
