To use Moldovan highways, the purchase of an electronic e-vignette is required, even before entering any toll sections.
Travel on highways and expressways is subject to payment, while secondary and main roads can be used free of charge.
The toll payment obligation applies to vehicles with a total weight under 3.5 tons.
* If you are driving a vehicle over 3.5 tons (such as a truck, bus, or heavy vehicle), please visit the MAIB system for the necessary payment.
Types and Prices of E-vignettes
The e-vignette is available for four different time periods:
- 7-day e-vignette
- 15-day e-vignette
- 30-day e-vignette
- 90-day e-vignette
- 180-day e-vignette
* If a vehicle under 3.5 tons tows a trailer, a separate payment is required for the trailer.
The toll fee calculation will be shown by the system after entering the vehicle and travel details.
ℹ️ Online Purchase and Required Data
The toll payment for road usage is made online. Vehicle registration takes only a few minutes. The required data are as follows:
- License plate number
- Country code
- Email address
- Mobile phone number
When ordering (registering the vehicle), you must provide the vehicle's license plate number and the country where the vehicle is registered. Next, select the start date and validity period of the e-vignette.
The system requires an email address and mobile phone number for contact. Providing your mobile phone number is necessary because the confirmation link is also sent via SMS, ensuring that you receive proof of payment even if email delivery fails for any reason.
After successful payment, a receipt and a QR™ SMS code will be sent by the system, containing the vehicle’s identification data and the validity period of the purchased e-vignette.
⚠️ Warning Regarding Suspicious Websites
Certain websites offer toll payments by collecting bank card data but do not provide a valid e-vignette, and the card data may end up in the hands of unauthorized persons.
Unsuspecting travelers may face serious disadvantages: firstly, they do not have a valid e-vignette—which may result in fines—and secondly, their card data might be misused.
It is recommended to avoid websites with incorrect or suspicious wording.
⛔ Fines
The law (Zákon č. 488/2013 Z. z.) specifies in detail the potential fines for driving on a toll highway or expressway without a valid payment:
- On-the-spot fine: if stopped by a police patrol, the fine is €115–€155
- Camera detection: if the violation is detected by an automatic camera system, the fine is €155–€460
On this customer portal, you can obtain the necessary proof of toll payment online within a few minutes, which will be registered at the Ministerul Infrastructurii și Dezvoltării Regionale center.
